– Dual Magazines, similar look as two box mags joined with a dual magazine clamp. The major difference is the magazines are joined together permanently. The magazine that is outside the rifle will have dummy rounds on the top to increase realism.

– Drum and snail magazines. Drum magazines are normally for LMG’s (light machine guns) and snail are for M16’s, these magazines start to get into the over 1000 round capacity. Some drum airsoft magazines will also hold the battery for the gun.

-Cartridge magazines. Cartridge magazines are manufactured for capacity over realism. Designed to fit into rifles such as m16, G3 etc. The magazines will loosely resemble a drum magazine and will have a capacity starting in the thousands.

All  hi-cap magazines have the same basic construction.

-Body. This is the look and size of the magazine.

– Hopper, The internal ball storage area or the magazine.

-Feeding mechanism, The internals that feed the balls into the Soft.

Hi-cap feeding mechanisms come in two flavors, manual and automatic. After you have chosen what type of airsoft magazine you want the next step is choosing the feeding system.

-Manual. The hi-cap has a wind up spring inside the magazine, when it unwinds it feeds your balls.

-Automatic. Many different types, as the name suggests the balls are feed automatically.

Automatic feed mechanisms for airsoft hi-caps

– Sound activated. The internal electronic system detects the sound of the airsoft firing and engages the feed system, and turns off when done firing.

– Press Switch. Press the button to activate the feed mechanism.

– Hi-bred system. This system has a “ready bay” and a hopper withing the magazine. The magazine will fire from the ready bay only, during a gap in game play you will activate the press button feed to recharge the ready bay.
